This modern chic wedding at Gardener Ranch in Carmel, California was filled with dining, dancing, and pure fun at one of the most beautiful venues on the California Coast!
The Love Story
Rochelle and Andrew met through a mutual friend at the trendy Frying Pan Bar in New York City. Rochelle had just moved there for a new job and wasn’t looking for love. As fate would have it, that night began a long-distance love story that culminated full circle at her father’s bar and grill, The Wooden Nickel, almost four years later (about time!). On Christmas Eve, Andrew knelt and proposed with her father’s blessing and some help with the arrangements.
Life was treating Rochelle great in Ohio but when you have grown up in California, you find yourself yearning to go back. We find this is especially true when you’ve spent your childhood near the California Coast! Your heart just never quite leaves it completely. Consequently, there was only one place in the world Rochelle wanted to get married.
Andrew describes Rochelle as a woman that is both beautiful inside and out. She makes him want to be a better person. Her laughter, upbeat personality, and giving nature are contagious, and as a result, everyone wants to be around her.
The Stylish Details
Rochelle’s personality shined through in this wedding design. With sleek, sophisticated, modern lines and a beautiful neutral palette of taupe, ivory, and olive it was a show stopper! Accented with gold and black, it resulted in a modern, chic wedding that was stunning in its execution. It was definitely one of our favorite weddings of 2019!
Rochelle and Andrew had a traditional Catholic ceremony at the stunningly beautiful and historic Carmel Mission Basilica. Their ceremony was performed by Father Ron, a long-time family friend who is also well known in the community. The Basilica was built back in 1770 and this beautiful church is still a major cultural and historical site in California. It is a pinnacle of the city of Carmel and one of the most iconic places to be married on the Pacific Coast.
Most noteworthy about their ceremony, was the supportive group of family and beloved friends from all over the world that surrounded this sweet couple as they said their vows.
No detail lacked attention, from the naked cake to Rochelle’s stylish, to-die-for shoes, every elegant detail was perfect!
Our Favorite Things
First of all, Rochelle wanted some way to highlight the special relationship she has with her dad and the restaurant she practically grew up in. The Wooden Nickel Bar & Grill in Watsonville holds a lifetime of memories for her, so it was only appropriate that she found a special way to honor it. As a result, we used wooden nickels as place cards. One of Rochelle’s bridesmaids helped her handwrite the names of each of her guests. They then stamped them with a custom design on the other. We think you’ll agree that they turned out charmingly!
Likewise, we kept the centerpieces simple yet elegant. We placed several groups of white and ivory flowers in various sized bud vases and small, low arrangements in gold cylinder vases on each table. This made it perfect for guests to converse throughout dinner. Overall, this resulted in a minimalist, modern, and chic wedding design.
Unfortunately, one of Andrew’s best friends couldn’t make it on their big day. After some scheming, Rochelle got him to pre-record a toast for the two of them because that’s what best friends and fiances do, right? Consequently, there were both tears and laughter as the DJ played the message during the champagne toasts.
Lastly, Stewart’s cove is a perfect place to get the perfect beach wedding pictures. Located directly behind the Carmel Mission Basilica, this lesser-known beach allowed our stylish bridal party some privacy for some memorable pictures. It made for even less work for their awesome photographers because there were no photo bombers to Photoshop out of the background! In short, a perfect place to get stunning coastal pictures for your perfect day.
PRO TIP: This is the only place in Carmel that will allow a rented shuttle bus the space to turn around. So keep that in mind if you are planning to rent one!
We really cannot say enough good things about the team of professionals that made this day happen. One vendor can make or break a wedding and every one of them pulled off their particular area in stunning fashion.
We want to thank in particular Russie Denay Photography for her amazing photos and for allowing us to use them on our site. It was a magical day and she made a hard job look easy!
