Even with storm clouds in the sky and several days of rain, Hana proved that she had a very clear vision and knew exactly what she wanted! From beginning to end she was determined to make the best of her romantic rainy wedding day.
We have always loved succulents but Westwindsucculents worked amazing magic at this wedding! What they created for Hana’s bridal flowers and her accent pieces was divine! She used large pieces of driftwood with groupings of colorful succulents, protea flowers, and dried flowers. This result had a truly Monterey feel because all of these flowers are abundant locally. In addition, Westwind Succulents added a fun touch of whimsey with the adorable ceramic planter in the shape of a dog tucked behind the cake. This sweet piece was a charming personal detail highlighting Hana’s love for her pooch.
The invitations were a darling custom design from EightTwentyOneStudio. The adorable artwork captured the Monterey California coastline in a unique way. Each guest was delighted to receive their artful invitation. So many personal details gave this wedding such a welcoming feel. Look for Hana’s dog (Waldo) on the Monterey map dressed in a red and white striped shirt!
Our Favorite Things
As planners and coordinators, we know that something UNEXPECTED will occur on your wedding day. Because your day is just as important to us as it is to you, we work really hard to control what we can. That way, when the unexpected comes it’s not a big deal. Hana and Kai had one of the hardest unexpected events to recover from in the form of the weather. Bad weather can be incredibly challenging if you don’t have a backup plan (and a fantastic planner!).
Monterey had torrential downpours all week and the forecast for the wedding day was showing increased downpours. Our bride was set on having her wedding outside. Consequently, this became problematic because the venue could not accommodate a large tent. In addition, it was Monterey Car Week, the busiest week in the Monterey Bay area. So of course, every rental company in the area was completely out of tents!
Planners can save a rainy wedding day
This is where Cheri’s true talent kicked in. As a result of her resourcefulness, she was able to change the venue and find three small tents which did the job perfectly. Within three days of the wedding, Cheri had everything set up on time and she truly saved the day! Making the most of the rain, the bride ordered those adorable Kate Spade umbrellas. Everything came together to make her romantic rainy day wedding a beautiful success!
But what became our favorite part (even with all of the stress) was standing in between the building and the tent while holding umbrellas over the guests as they brought their hot food from the buffet to their tables. Consequently, they were able to enjoy the company of family, good friends, and share a fantastic meal in celebration of this adorable couple!
